The app needs location services enabled in phone settings and permission to access location.

For best accuracy

  • Enable high-accuracy / precise location (GPS, not Wi‑Fi only)
  • Go on deck or near a window — satellite signal is weaker below deck
  • Wait 10–20 seconds for the first fix after turning GPS on

Course over ground (COG) in HDG + COG compass mode

  • Requires movement from ~2 kn — at rest or very low speed COG is unreliable
  • GPS needs a good fix and must report movement bearing
  • GPS speed is also used to decide whether COG is trustworthy

When position is unavailable, you will see a message with an action button (e.g. “Enable location” or “Grant access”). After returning from settings, the app refreshes automatically.

The Android emulator does not provide real GPS — use a physical phone for testing.
